This article is looking for the elements of the US media diplomacy toward the Iranian Eleventh Government. For this purpose, the Persian website of Voice Of American was studied using qualitative content analysis in a period of 104 days, from 1st of August, 2014 to 28th of November. The findings show that VOA has tried to prepare the public for the negotiations and Tehran’s submission to the wills of the West. It has tried to do so, on one hand by presenting a peaceful and rational image of the West, and on the other hand by showing a strong and serious face against Iran. Moreover, VOA has tried to promote public support for policies compatible with that of the West and promote a critical approach against non-compatible policies. VOA also attempted to promote the idea that the government is incapable of functioning in Iran’s so-called non-democratic structure and claimed that Iran’s tendency to negotiation was because of the effectiveness of the sanctions. VOA painted the situation as Iran’s anti-imperialist approach has failed and the only way to save the Islamic Republic is to adopt a western model and promote relations with the West. VOA introduced the current situation as the best time for peace and for reforming the Iranian political system.

Promoting positive attitude towards an innovation and having it accepted by people is the goal of any innovator. In the recent years Iranian national TV has tried to attract more audience in competition with other media by digitizing its channels and improving the quality of its programs. This research aims to explore the attitude of the people of Nurabad in the province of Lorestan towards digitization of Iranian TV channels and the increase in their number. Regarding the innovational improvement of Iranian TV we tried to answer the following questions: do the benefits coming with an innovation explain people’s attitude toward that innovation? Is this attitude affected by their personal traits? We used survey research as the methodology and using Cochran’s method we found 384 people as a representative sample of all adults living in the city who are over 15 years old. Our sampling method was integrative and synthetic and the sample was chosen by quota multistage sampling. For data gathering we used a questionnaire made by the researcher. A number of professors and scholars confirmed the validity of the questionnaire and its reliability was confirmed by Cronbach's (alpha) which resulted 0.74. Descriptive results of the research show that 67.8 percent of the audiences had a positive attitude towards digitization of the network and their increased number. Analytical results of the research indicate that there were significant relations between the attitude of the audiences toward an innovation and their level of religiousness, their liking of the Islamic Republic, credibility of the Iranian national TV in their minds, the success of the local TV programs, their level of knowledge, advantageousness of the innovation, the experience of previous use of the innovation, the visibility of the results of using the innovation. There were no significant relations between factors such as age, gender, level of education, and socio-economic class of the respondent and also their access to the satellite channels. Regression analysis showed that 46 percent of the changes of the dependent variable can be explained by the independent variables.

Metaphor in Cognitive Semantics has a completely different meaning from its literal definition and it creates the underpinnings of human thought and cognition. This study demonstrates the necessity of investigating the metaphors used in news discourses. It provides examples of metaphors used in international discourses which lead to the creation of pre-designed mental spaces in people’s minds. The main focus of the research is investigation of the role of metaphor in news discourses and the way metaphors create discourse cohesion and ideological shelters. Another section of the study looks into practical strategies that are utilized in production of news content. Metaphorical thinking is unavoidable, especially in complicated and abstract topics like foreign policy. Therefore, it can be concluded that paying attention to metaphors contributes to unveiling the reality.

With the expansion of globalization, new media have become even more important. This article intends to investigate how much online content is being read by the people of Tehran and what factors may have influenced that amount. I used a multistage sampling method to make a sample of 5000 people. The data was gathered by surveying the citizens of Tehran who are 15 or older. Based on the findings, the people in the sample spend 20 minutes reading web sites, 8 minutes reading electronic files, 8 minutes reading emails and 13 minutes reading on social media in 24 hours. Therefore, on average the people Tehran read internet content for 49 minutes which is more than other sources of content. As for the influencing factors, men read more than women, singles read more than married people, educated people read more than less educated people, youth, students, and employees read more than other groups. The level of parents' education and socio-economic status also affected the amount of time they have spent reading internet content. People living in more developed regions of Tehran, have better access and therefore read more.

The emergence of any communication medium in the society has interwoven positive and negative applications, overlooking any of which can cause serious damages in the society. Mobile social networks are no exception. This study has tried to explore new communication styles in the cyber space in order to understand such positive and negative aspects. We have used surveying to reach the statistical population, being the residents of the city of Tehran, who are 15 years or older and use mobile social networks. The results show that mobile social networks act as complementary and supportive means of human communications and play a significant role in the openness of the users. Moreover, based on the results of this study the users face limitations in their interactions and they are deprived of constructive features of communication such as face-to-face interaction as well as reading books and doing exercise.

At the beginning of the last decade of the twentieth century the number of the users of internet increased quickly and the governments started actions to organize this sphere and guarantee its security. In this regard the way the governments made limitations and filters has raised criticism. While some consider filtering as opposing to the concept of freedom of speech, others see unlimited freedom in the uncontrolled internet space harmful. Some other, while accepting the concept of minimal filtering, criticize vast filtering policies. An issue that is growing mostly in developing countries is filtering based on political agendas, ideas of specific individuals and the interests of specific groups. This paper is looking for the answer to the following question: are the current filtering policies effective? Performing a secondary analysis of 9 research articles, I have tried to address the harms of different ways of filtering and explore the negative results of intensive filtering practices. The results of this study show to what extent the filtering policies are effective and what policies can be productive and effective in this regard.
